Coogan’s, home of $1 Bud Lights and food that is pretty passable… You are a beacon of light for Boston’s post-grads who have big kid jobs along with big student loans and rent bills. Also, anybody who likes cheap beer.
My friend and I ordered this pepperoni pizza the other day in the name of pizza science, but otherwise usually go for an appetizer or sandwich. The pizzas are actually my least favorite thing on their menu.
A one-topping pizza costs $8, and is about 10 inches in size. If you were absolutely starving you could probably eat the whole thing, but if you’re that hungry, just go to Al’s for a huge, cheap, and delicious sandwich. If you’re at Coogan’s, you’re here for the dollar drafts, and probably just need a snack to fill up your stomach. One of these pizzas is fine for two people to split for lunch.
The crust surprisingly has a good crunch to it, and tastes a little salty and dry. The sauce is the worst part. Super oniony marinara, with chunks of onions that are just blah in my opinion. I would not be surprised if this was just cheap canned pasta sauce. The cheese congeals quickly and is mozzerella- also definitely not high quality, but whatever. Pepperoni are the standard small, cheap kind, basically like what you could get at the grocery store. Not offensive, not a game changer.
You get what you pay for! If you’re dead set on pizza, this will do, but otherwise just get the waffle cheese fries. (Thank me later on that one.)
