I’ve been on a huge cheese kick for the last six months or so, picking up a new one to try every time I went to the grocery store. As it turns out, I went kind of overboard and some of the cheese was starting to go back before I could finish it. (RIP truffle cheddar from Seattle, Great Hill Blue, and 3 year Grafton.)  Like any good girl boss though, when faced with this problem, I came up with a solution: throw it all on a pizza together. Eat, Drink, Bachelor: Week 3 – Hot Italian Sausage & Ricotta Pizza

 

After cooking a few different things for weeks 1 & 2 of The Bachelor, I decided to get back to my pizza roots. Based on the assortment of food in my fridge, hot italian sausage and ricotta pizza was the winning recipe. All I needed to grab was the dough and ricotta, so this was both delicious AND kind of frugal. Eat, Drink, Bachelor – Week 1 Recap: Buffalo Chicken Dip Mini Calzones

Welcome to a new Pizza Blonde series – Eat, Drink, Bachelor! I’ve been doing this for a few seasons, but now it’s time to make a blog out of it. Every Monday night I will drink wine, cook up a new recipe, watch The Bachelor, and recap the show and food for you. Why not, right? It’s my blog and I’ll do what I want.

To kick off Nick Viall’s season of The Bachelor, I got cozy with some red wine and decided to wing it (pun not intended) making buffalo chicken dip mini calzones. They were supposed to be more like the little “bomb” food items you see in Tasty videos, but like I said, I was winging it and they ended up a little bit bigger. Ultimately it doesn’t matter because my mini buffalo chicken dip calzones were DELICIOUS.

Just in time for me to get the buffalo chicken dip mini calzones in the oven baking, the show started. First off – I hate how much time we spend on these little Bachelor alumni pow wows before every new season starts. I know all of the advice they want to give. I know Nick’s backstory. And Sean, don’t you have something better to do by now? Anyway, FOURTH TIME’S THE CHARM!

Pizza Around the World – Turkey’s Pide

In Turkey, their version of pizza is called pide (pronounced “pea-day.”) The Telegraph has a great article on the true Turkish version of pide, where they delve into the origins of pide: “Some say that the Ottomans ate a pide-like bread called tokalak, while others claim that the dish was invented in the Twenties as a way of eking out ingredients in war-torn Turkey. Most agree that pide originated in the Samsun area, possibly in the town of Bafra, and that it can be as simple as a sesame seed-sprinkled flat bread.”  Continue reading

Dear Lawry’s Garlic Salt,

I love you. You’ve got everything I need to make bad pizza taste good – salt, garlic, and paprika. You are the seasoning that makes cheesy bread taste extra cheesy. You pair well with red pepper flakes and above all else, parmesan cheese. You can go all over pizza, or just on the crust, but either way, you just make things better. You are a hero when it comes to making frozen pizza taste like real pizza. You’re the key to making garlic bread garlicky. You allow people who don’t know how to cook to make food that’s edible. Besides pizza, garlic bread, and cheesy bread, you even light up the lives of people eating steaks, burgers, chicken, and all sorts of meat. You help make vegetables not taste like garbage. I don’t think that there’s any food that you don’t taste good on – you are the little black dress of seasonings. Thank you for being you. To close, I’ll just quote an inspired Amazon review: “LAWRYS? Buffalo Chicken Dip Recipe

On football Sundays, when we spend 10 hours rooting for our fantasy players, there is nothing I love eating more than buffalo chicken dip. Yes, even more than pizza. Obviously I love pizza as a football food too, but buffalo chicken dip is a special treat that I can’t justify eating any other time because it is so unhealthy.
