Marathon Training Cravings – Papa John’s Gluten-Free Crust Pizza

This has been a hectic, busy, and stressful summer for me. Not only am I eating more pizza than ever, I’m training to run my first marathon this November in NYC! Since I’m working out and burning more calories than ever, the “runger” has been intense.

When I heard about Papa John’s Ancient Grains Gluten-Free Crust Pizza, I thought, “Healthier pizza that can fill my cravings during my training? Sign me up!” The gluten free crust is thin, crispy, and made of ancient grains that include sorghun, teff, amaranth, and quinoa. Do I know what those grains are? No. Do they make for a good gluten-free crust? Yep!

Less crust = less calories = less risk of marathon training weight gain. AND, I still get to eat yummy pizza and fulfill my cravings. Thanks Papa John, I don’t know what I’d do without you.

7 Pizza Stories That Will Give You All The Feels

1. Papa John’s Grandma Welfare Check

Anybody who’s got grandparents still living off the grid can relate to this one – after Hurricane Matthew hit Florida, an elderly woman was unable to contact her family since she didn’t have a cell phone. Thankfully, the miracle of online ordering was there to save the day!

2. Domino’s Saves a Man’s Life

Confession: I am that person who gets food from the same places on such a regular basis that I get to know the employees. While I was working at Fenway in college, it was Upper Crust; at my current office, it’s Boloco. When one particular man stopped getting his usual Domino’s order, they noticed and it saved his life.

3. AND They Saved A Woman’s Life Too!

I’ll just let an excerpt say it all: “She always order a large thin crust pepperoni pizza with two diet cokes,” Susan Guy, pizza delivery driver said. Yes, every day. But the call didn’t come Saturday, Sunday, or Monday.

4. Chef Loses 100 lbs Eating Pizza

This is a really great story and also happens to be my ultimate dream. Chef Pasquale, from Ribalta in NYC, started to feel a little bit too chubby. Instead of living a sad life full of chicken breast and broccoli, he just ate a Neapolitan margherita pizza every day for lunch, 5 days a week. After 3 months, he had lost 40 lbs. #GOALS.

5. Year of Pizza for Homeless Kids

If you won a year worth of free pizza, what would you do with it? Probably keep it for yourself, and you know what, there’s no shame in that game. Not everyone can be as nice as this woman who donated all of her pizza to homeless kids.

6. Hot Pockets Save Man’s Life

I love a good Hot Pocket from time to time. Is that trashy? Maybe. You know what’s not trashy? Not being in the path of a terrible plane crash because you were craving hot pockets.

7. Rosa’s Pizza Feeds The Homeless

Next time I’m in Philly, my first stop is going to be Rosa’s. They have an amazing thing going on that I’m honestly surprised hasn’t spread to more cities yet. The power of paying it forward is real, and when it involves pizza, I’ve got to show as much love for it as I can.
