Confession: While I’m a lifelong proponent of eating frozen pizzas, I’ve never tried one from Dr. Oetker until recently. Honestly, I always thought that these pizzas looked like they sucked, but I grabbed this mozzarella and pesto frozen pizza on sale and was very pleasantly surprised! Dr. Oetker did a re-branding recently to bring their box design up to date with the times, and I guess I’m a sucker, because it worked on me.

Since I don’t live near a Trader Joe’s anymore, when I have the opportunity to go to one, I basically play supermarket sweep and throw as much food into my cart as possible. When I saw their Trader Joe’s Burrata, Prosciutto, and Arugula Flatbread in the frozen pizza aisle, there was no way I wasn’t getting it. Digiorno Rising Crust Pepperoni Pizza


Digiorno is arguably the king of frozen pizzas. “It’s not delivery, it’s Digiorno” is a part of our pop culture lexicon. Digiorno’s classic rising crust pizza is like your favorite college sweatshirt – comforting, no frills, and reliable. The crust is twice as thick as it needs to be and really just serves to provide empty calories that make the pizza easier to share. The cheese melts well together but doesn’t have much taste. I suggest adding grated parmesan before baking. The pepperonis and sauce give a decent kick to the pizza. Best paired with cheap beer.

Sainsbury’s Frozen Pepperoni Pizza

This pizza from Sainsbury’s was solid for a cheap store brand, but I needed to add some garlic salt and pepper for extra taste. There was nothing notable about the crust. There was cheddar cheese mixed in with all of the regular mozzarella, which definitely improved the cheese overall. It gave it a more robust flavor. The sauce was tasty but not very present on the pizza. It was on the sweeter side, which was nice when balancing out the spice of the pepperoni. The two different sizes of pepperoni were perfect for optimal placement. They weren’t frozen to the cheese, so I was able to move them around and put the small pepperonis in the spaces between the larger pepperonis.
