Boston Wine Expo Ticket Giveaway!

I am so excited to be going to the Boston Wine Expo this year! While helping spread the word about this great event is certainly fun, what’s even more fun is getting ready for the event ahead of time by researching what vendors and seminars I want to go to. The Boston Wine Expo is a huge undertaking, and it’s highly recommended that you go in with a plan.

Since I love making charcuterie and cheese boards at home to enjoy with wine, I thought I’d create one featuring some of the vendors that are going to be available at the Boston Wine Expo.

Read on to find out who some of my favorites are, my real girl tips for creating a cheese or charcuterie board, and how to enter my giveaway to win 2 tickets to the Boston Wine Expo’s Grand Tasting on Sunday, February 19th!

Eataly Boston – Via Emilia by Michael Schlow Tasting

Michael Schlow via emilia

Part of Eataly Boston’s Italian wonderland is La Cucina, a rotating-concept restaurant space where they will be inviting local chefs to take over the space and create their own pop-up restaurant menus. Debuting February 1st, the first chef to take over the space is Michael Schlow who has several accolades to his name such as “Best Chef in the Northeast” from the James Beard Foundation.

I was invited to a tasting of some of the dishes Chef Schlow will be featuring at his pop-up, Via Emilia, where the food is dedicated to the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy. Emilia-Romagna is home to several of my favorite Italian foods, including Parmigianno-Regiano and Proscuitto di Parma. (Seriously, I’ve been known to eat a plate of Proscuitto di Parma by itself as a meal.) Naturally, I was psyched.

While those staples of the region are on the menu along with other classics, the dishes we sampled were definitely a little more adventurous. As Michael Schlow put it himself, he could have served us all bolognese and we would have all loved it, but that would have been too easy.

Eat, Drink, Bachelor: Week 4 – Boston Cheese Party Pizza Recipe

cheese pizza

I’ve been on a huge cheese kick for the last six months or so, picking up a new one to try every time I went to the grocery store. As it turns out, I went kind of overboard and some of the cheese was starting to go back before I could finish it. (RIP truffle cheddar from Seattle, Great Hill Blue, and 3 year Grafton.)  Like any good girl boss though, when faced with this problem, I came up with a solution: throw it all on a pizza together. Boom. Boston Cheese Party.

Dr. Oetker Virtuoso Mozzarella & Pesto Pizza

dr oetker mozzarella and pesto frozen pizza

Confession: While I’m a lifelong proponent of eating frozen pizzas, I’ve never tried one from Dr. Oetker until recently. Honestly, I always thought that these pizzas looked like they sucked, but I grabbed this mozzarella and pesto frozen pizza on sale and was very pleasantly surprised! Dr. Oetker did a re-branding recently to bring their box design up to date with the times, and I guess I’m a sucker, because it worked on me.

Eat, Drink, Bachelor: Week 3 – Hot Italian Sausage & Ricotta Pizza

After cooking a few different things for weeks 1 & 2 of The Bachelor, I decided to get back to my pizza roots. Based on the assortment of food in my fridge, hot italian sausage and ricotta pizza was the winning recipe. All I needed to grab was the dough and ricotta, so this was both delicious AND kind of frugal. (I’m guilty of spending $40 in the name of cooking one meal because I needed to buy ALL of the ingredients.) Buckle up, grab a glass of Merlot, and keep reading for the recipe and Bachelor recap!

Pavia – Formaggio Pizza – Boston, MA

pavia formaggio slice

I’ve recently hit the 4 year mark at my office job here in Boston’s Financial District. We always get our office parties catered by Pavia, but other than those occasions, I really haven’t gone there very often. This might be one of my biggest regrets as a young professional. Their food is cheap, the portions are large, the lines are never too long, and they have a ton of options. 2017 goal: try more of their slices. On this particular Wednesday, I grabbed a Formaggio slice.

Lower Mills Tavern Breakfast Pizza – Dorchester, Boston, MA

Lower mills tavern Dorchester breakfast pizza

Does this breakfast pizza from Lower Mills Tavern look amazing or does it look amazing? Lower Mills Tavern opened up down the road from my apartment a few months ago, but I haven’t gathered up the motivation to go until this past New Year’s Eve. I had to go for a run, I didn’t want to run, so I got my boyfriend to agree to meet me at LMT at the end of said run. Pizza as a motivation to work out always does the trick.

Eat, Drink, Bachelor – Week 2 Recap: Steak Bites + Blue Cheese Butter

This week’s featured cooking attempt for week 2 of The Bachelor is a recipe from Chrissy Teigen’s Cravings cookbook that I’ve been wanting to try for a while – steak bites with blue cheese butter! You can find the recipe here, and read on for my actual experience making these. I’ll give you one spoiler: they tasted as good as this episode of The Bachelor was crazy.
